Richard Copland

Richard

An 'entrepreneur' from an early age Richards' first taste of business came from the gardening services company her set up at the tender age of 12. 'Gnomes garden services' was developed and saw Richard grass cutting and maintaining gardens for neighbours and elderly folk in the community with the trusted support of his parents for transport.

Richard has always had an interest in cars and enjoys driving both around the island and when the opportunity arises further afield. He's a keen family man and loves spending time with his son Alfie. He enjoys the rugged beauty of Orkney and takes opportunities to wrap up and brace the elements on a winters walk. He takes great delight in 'helping' Alfie with his lego creations - an excellent way to relive childhood memories.

Syd & Alfie

My interest in boats and boating started at an early age. One of my Grandfathers was a wooden boat builder and the other was a keen trout fisherman. My dad always had boats that he was either repairing or building, and quite often needed a small boy to help.  I started working on GRP boats in 2001 with Orkney Glass Fibre who built the Scapa range of boats along with GRP roofing, boat repairs and bespoke mouldings. OGF ceased trading in 2007 when I started my own business working mainly in the marine industry doing boat repairs and modification and fitting out new build GRP boats and GRP roofing. In 2014 RGC accrued the Scapa boat mould and we started building dinghies for them.

As far as hobbies and interests go I enjoy music - both listening and playing (fiddle and guitar). My favourite music is rock and blues but I play mainly scottish dance and country. I like drawing and painting for my own pleasure as well as gardening. Any spare time I have my wife Linda finds things for me to do!

A note from Syd - All the boats are hand built and can be modified to suit our customers requirements.
